Summer Holiday Desserts Quick and Easy Recipes for Cakes Pies and Cookies edition by M Brewer Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks
There are fifteen dessert recipes included in this cookbook, including two bread puddings, four cookie recipes, four cakes, and several cobbler-type desserts. Some of the recipes are from scratch, and several use cake mixes, pudding mixes, and canned pie filling. If you're looking for desserts made with fresh fruit, you won't find any in this book.If you have kids who are interested in learning to cook this would be a great start for them. The recipes are straightforward, simple, and easy to follow. There is a recipe for Choco Peanut Butter No Bake Cookies, which Ms. Brewer says is the only cookie recipe she and her sister were allowed to make when her mother wasn't home. She prefaces each recipe with a brief description of the origin of the recipe, and she obviously enjoys cooking with her children and is very enthusiastic.
The book is formatted nicely. Each recipe begins on its own page and there are no photographs.
A bit of editing would have improved the book. There are some awkward sentences, such as "One time we tried a restaurant that one of my doctor friends recommended with other couples we ended up trying this restaurant Pineapple Pete's." Another, "Well, if pain [sic] was that good, chocolate had to be unbelievable." Personally, I sometimes find it difficult to choose between pain and chocolate. But there's more pain to come - this sentence from "Praline Cookies": "Like having, a baby...it hurts to get them here but in the end, it's all worth it." If making those cookies hurts as much as having a baby, I'm SO not making them! :)

Summer Holiday Desserts Quick and Easy Recipes for Cakes Pies and Cookies edition by M Brewer Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews
This is a great cookbook for those of you who enjoy fresh, summer desserts. It's easy to navigate and makes for a wonderful baking companion.
This is just the right recipe book at the right time. I love the Chocolate Walnut Pie! It is rich! So small slices are best. I haven't had any delicious bread pudding since I was a child (quite a while ago) so I will be trying out the Bread Pudding recipe next. Loved the introductions to the recipes and I could really relate to cooking and taking care of a family when time is short and duties are long. I'm looking forward to your next dessert book. Thanks for the recipes!
I was very impressed with the receipes..very easy to follow and not a lot of reading
or pictures to try to follow. Made simple...is what I like! This book is small but
perfect for a busy person who can put together a dessert very quickly after a long day
at work or being busy in the home. I would recommend this book to anyone who can
appreciate an excellent dessert book that has been simplified for easy preparations.
When I read through the recipes in this short (15 recipe) booklet, I had a sense of deja vu - that I'd seen all these recipes somewhere else before. I was hoping to find something I hadn't tried before, but that's not the case here. If I haven't made these recipes before, I've had them at someone else's house.
You can find most, if not all, of these recipes, or very similar recipes, on any recipe website, or in just about any community cookbook - you know, like the ones published by the Junior League, or a church group, etc., used for a fundraiser.
The author's write-up about the Crockpot Cherry Crisp makes it seem like it's her own invention. However, I've had the same recipe for years, and I got it from someone else. As a matter of fact, you can do an internet search on the recipe title, and find AT LEAST 10 recipes for a Crockpot Cherry Crisp - that exact name. Changing the amounts of 1 or 2 ingredients of an existing recipe does not make it a new recipe. I do that all the time, but give credit to the person who gave me the original recipe.
I'm glad this was a freebie, because I'd feel cheated if I had paid for it. There are thousands of free recipes on the internet, so why buy something like this?
