This story of male companionship in the mountains was outstanding. Benton tells a good story. From fighting Indians to fighting the "Flatlanders" keeps you on the edge of the trail.
good read
The author knows his indians and their problems. Lets the reader understand what the tribes went thru with the problem of small pox.and what the trappers faced while trapping. A good read as to the lives of the different tribes and their interaction with the whiteman.
A Very good story! Wish it had been longer but I liked the way the author went into a little detail at the end of the book to explain what was happening in their lives at that moment, all the characters. I highly recommend this book!
Along with looking for the one he was sent to kill there were Indians, bad weather and even smallpox epidemic.

WR Benton is great western author!
Revenge is often the death of the one who falls victim to its calling. The cruel waste of men, the brutality of seeking that revenge, the deliberate disease cast upon the Indians ... The love and bonds between many of the characters makes this another terrific read.
